Jem Godfrey – by day, a mild-mannered janitor; by night, the emperor of prog! Not quite, but it’s got to be said that this guy’s day job is not exactly typical of a deviant suicide mosh purveyor. After fleeting success (in neo-prog terms! they were the support act for bands like Ark, Jadis and Galahad) as the keyboard player in Freefall the late 1980s, Jem ‘s music career took a slightly more mainstream direction. I can’t fill all of the gaps in his biography, but he has experienced considerable success over the last few years as a producer and songwriter – if you’ve heard “Whole Again” by Atomic Kitten or “Kiss Kiss” by Holly Valance you’re already familiar with his work. He was also the recipient of an Ivor Novello award for the best selling single of 2005: “That’s My Goal” by Shayne Ward. Nope, me neither. Much as I admire his talents, I don’t think the chances of me posting any of the tracks above on this (or any other) site. Hats off to the guy for seeing the light and releasing my own personal number one album of 2006 though. “Milliontown” is an absolutely fantastic album… every one of the six tracks deserves another Ivor Novello if you ask me. The first Frost* album was a labour of love produced at significant personal expense by Jem. He’s currently writing more material, which would have a much better chance of seeing the light of day if we could help him recoup some of that expense. No Comments
