One of my favourite albums of all time was released in 1990 – “Bellybutton” by Jellyfish. For me this record was, and still is, perfect in every way. The follow up, “Spilt Milk” was good but never grabbed me in the same way – their sound had changed, probably due in no small part to the fact that Jason Falkner and Chris Manning had both left and been replaced by session musicians. Spilt Milk wasn’t released until 1993, and although Bellybutton had a polished feel to it, they’d maybe taken their perfectionism too far on the second record. The various band members have been involved in a number of projects since then – of those that I’ve heard Imperial Drag is the one that I’d recommend first. Roger Manning’s, sorry, Roger Joseph Manning Junior’s, latest album “The Land Of Pure Imagination” is also very good – I need to check out the 10+ year gap between those two records in a bit more depth! Good choice, I love this album depite never having bought it. The taped copy I had was pretty much worn through. I know where I can “inherit” a copy of the cd so no commision for you today:) I do have a cd single of “The Ghost at number 3″ (if that’s it’s title) and track 3 is a very funny Mario Bros. piss-take.
If I remember right it’s “The Ghost at Number One”, but it’s a while since I’ve heard it.
You’ve just reminded me – I need to stick a link somewhere on here to Amazon that will link in to the Raith Trust’s affiliate account – no commission for me, but a wee boost to the Trust’s coffers!!!
