Gazpacho’s latest album “Night” made it onto a lot of 2007 top ten lists – I didn’t do one of my own but if I had it would have been in contention for a top honour though. Gazpacho deserve all the praise they get, they don’t seem to seek it out though! As far as I can tell they’re largely unknown outside prog circles, and to my ears this is a strange niche for them to find themselves in – they don’t “do widdly” (or as Jem Godfrey would say, they don’t write music with too many notes!) and I imagine they’d appeal to a far broader audience than has ever heard of them. The link below will take you to Amazon where the album is pretty expensive, although you can often pick up a bargain on their Marketplace. A better option is to hop over to gazpachoworld.com and buy it there for £9.99 or $16.99 – you can also listen to a streamed version of the whole album there if by any chance you’re not already converted to the cause. Another cracker from my favourite independent Norwegian band named after a bowl of soup. This one’s from their “When Earth Lets Go” album, and showcases their more mellow side (in comparison to the last track of theirs that I featured, Prisoner) I’ve no idea why this band aren’t absolutely massive. I guess they’re just not on people’s radar screens – a great shame. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. Surely everybody loves cold tomato soup? And on the off-chance that you don’t, try this as an alternative. They’re a Norwegian band who have been described as “the greatest unsigned band in the world”… and while I’m not sure anyone can categorically make a statement like that, I’d be surprised if there are many bands out there who could better them. They’ve recently released their fourth album, and prefer to do things completely independently rather than get backing from a record label. The result is complete creative control over every aspect of their musical careers. This track is from their stunning 2005 album “Firebird”. Buy it direct from the band here (it’s cheaper than at Amazon and better for the band). No Comments |
