Cool Taxidermy
Posted on Nov 23rd, 2010 by Alan @ 4:09 pm

If money was no object, I’d buy all 3 of these:

Brewdog’s “The End Of History”

A £500 bottle of beer served by it’s own furry wee waiter!

The Piglet Bank

An actual piggy bank!

Wild Grey Squirrel On A Vespa Scooter

It does exactly what it says on the tin – it’s a wild grey squirrel on a vespa. You, know, a scooter? Grrrrnnn-grrrrrnnn-grrrrnnnnn?
Also available: Wild Grey Squirrel Playing a Piano, Wild Grey Squirrel On A Horse, Wild Moles Cheating at Cards, and much much more!

Art School Dancing
Posted on May 4th, 2010 by Alan @ 1:48 pm

I managed to catch a bit of Ally Gourlay’s radio show on Leith FM last night (every Monday night from 10pm til midnight, on www.leithfm.co.uk or 98.8 FM if you’re local) – wish I’d caught more of it as it was superb. I was listening via the Wunder Radio iPhone app, and will be doing that again whenever I’m out of the country.

The show details are on Ally’s facebook page – I’ve no idea if anyone can see this if they’re not his FB friend, so just in case here is last night’s playlist:

  • THE PINK FLOYD “See Emily Play”
  • THE VERMIN POETS “Like Poets Often Do”
  • PAVEMENT “Here”
  • GREENSKEEPERS “Low And Sweet”
  • FLOXYTEK “Classic Pure”
  • AIR “Sexy Boy”
  • COCTEAU TWINS “Pink Orange Red”
  • DONOVAN “Sunshine Superman”
  • CARL BRADNEY “Slipping Into Darkness”
  • P.J. HARVEY “Sheela-Na-Gig”
  • COMPULSIVE GAMBLERS “Stop And Think It Over”
  • JULIAN COPE “Planetary Sit In (Every Girl Has Your Name”
  • CODEINE VELVET CLUB “Hollywood”
  • THE MOVE “Vote For Me”
  • EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND “Up Yours”
  • SEX PISTOLS “Anarchy In The UK”
  • SLUDGEFEAST “S.O.S.”
  • THE BEATLES “Within You Without You”
  • BOYSNOIZE “Transmission”
  • CULTURE “Lion Rock”

  • THE CORAL “I Remember When”

Manic Pop Thrills presents De Rosa + Esperi + The Wildhouse
Posted on Nov 17th, 2008 by Alan @ 11:43 am

MPT presents De Rosa etc

This is how Mike from Manic Pop Thrills described De Rosa to me:

“They were originally a cross between the Pixies and Scottish folk but they’ve added more electronics/keyboards ahead of their second LP. They’ve giving away an LP’s worth of new material that won’t be on their next LP at www.wearederosa.com and it’s way better than we have any right to expect. Check out perhaps Ore, The Sea Cup, Joyless and It Lives In Parks to give you an idea of what they sound like now.”

Sounds promising.

How Cool Is This?
Posted on Jun 26th, 2008 by Alan @ 2:23 pm

I’ve just been playing with wordle (a gadget that creates text clouds based on the frequency that words appear in a block of text) and I wondered what would happen if I copied and pasted the contents of the current front page of this blog. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE this!

Happy CSS Naked Day!
Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 by Alan @ 12:39 pm

You will no doubt notice something slightly different about the site today – to celebrate CSS Naked Day I’ve disabled all of the formatting on the site so you can see what it would look like without all of the bells and whistles.

Normal service will be resumed tomorrow!

Katie Price & Peter Andre – A Whole New World
Posted on Dec 13th, 2007 by Alan @ 12:25 pm

katiepeter.jpg

Every music blogger with a pulse seems to be compiling their “best of 2007” list just now. I thought I’d do something similar… the customer review page on Amazon for this album is my favourite webpage of 2007.

I can’t really put it any better than this:

“I threw up continously when listening to this album, it was that brilliant. My body rejected the music because of its sheer awesomeness.”

“Disapointingly the album came to an end and I could move again. I pulled myself to my feet and I realised that my hard bitten, cynical demeanour had disapeared along with my bitter outlook! My ears were bright purple now from the astonishing music that had just ambushed it for the past 30 mins. In fact Im getting them amputated next week, but I dont care. Normally I would be bitter and drink myself silly in a downtown bar, but after hearing that INCREDIBLE album I instead decided to write this review, and apply for a job saving seals and rescuing puppies. Thank you Katie and Peter, you saved me from a life of bitterness and anger.”

It’s for charideee you know.

This blog is intended as a way to spread the word about music I really like, and encourage others to support artists who are making great music. "Try before you buy", if you like. If you hear something you like here, go and buy it - I'll post links to online shops where you can buy each track I blog about.

If you're reading this and you are the artist, or their record company, and you don't want a track I've posted to be available to hear in this way just email me and let me know - I will be more than happy to take the file down straight away. I've heard of other bloggers getting threatened with letters from lawyers, and there is absolutely no need to waste your money on that with me!
